The intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is leading a worldwide effort to build the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). GEOSS builds upon, and adds value to, functioning Earth observation systems, in part by working to enhance interoperability among components contributed to GEOSS. A Standards and Interoperability Forum (SIF) has been created to facilitate the interchange of information and the development of recommendations for standards and interoperability in GEOSS. The SIF is composed of experts nominated by GEO Members and Participating Organizations, and will also draw on subject matter experts globally to support its objectives and goals.

There will be a meeting of the SIF on 31 October in Xi'an China, coincident with the ISO TC211 meeting. The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency Xi'an Hotel from 17:00 to 19:00 local time.  Anyone interested in learning more about opportunities to become involved with the SIF is invited to attend.

Please inform Siri Jodha Singh Khalsa at sjsk@nsidc.org if you are planning to attend the SIF meeting in Xi'an. You may also contact Dr. Khalsa for further information.
