SSTL Delivers GPS Receivers For ORBCOMM's New OG2 Satellites

Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) has delivered eighteen SGR-10 GPS receivers to Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) of the USA to provide on-board orbit determination for the ORBCOMM Generation 2 (OG2) satellites.

SSTL's SGR-10 is a spacecraft orbit determination sub-system designed for small and large Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite applications. The SGR-10 provides GPS standard time, position and velocity in a compact unit that is flight proven in numerous missions.

Because the SGR-10 has 24 channels it provides very fast time to first location fix. Another important feature is its dual-antenna provision that helps improve its visibility of the GPS constellation under changing spacecraft orientations.

The GPS receiver combines SSTL's knowledge of spacecraft sensors and systems with terrestrial GPS technology to offer a sophisticated spacecraft navigation system.

The ORBCOMM satellites provide two-way data communications from low Earth orbit to track, monitor and control mobile and fixed assets in four core markets: commercial transportation, heavy equipment, industrial fixed assets and marine/homeland security.

SNC is the Prime Contractor for the supply of 18 new OG2 satellites, with an option to purchase up to 30 additional satellites to augment and upgrade ORBCOMM's existing satellite constellation. ORBCOMM plans to begin launching the OG2 satellites at the end of 2010.
